Summer Beach Vacation

 Laguna Beach 2011

This year we spent a week at Laguna Beach with my family to celebrate my dad's and Braden's birthdays and the Fourth of July.  What a week!

We spent most of the week exploring and playing at the beach.  Laguna Beach is so neat because there are rocky cliffs that border the beach that allow for tidal pools that collect sea crabs, anemones, and other fun ocean creatures.  Ava loved to climb through the rocks at low tide and touch the sea anemones.  She looked at Braden and said, "Daddy, that anemone just hugged my finger!"  Bryce tagged along through the rocks the best he could, but still needed a lot of help.   Bryce became so much more brave this year. .. he had no fear playing in the surf as the waves crashed in!  He was so interested in the sand crabs.

The Fourth of July was beautiful.  Fireworks over the ocean...need I say more!  Ava and Bryce dressed up in their USA attire and loved watching the fireworks.  Bryce even came to the park ready with "ear pluggers".  He didn't need them though....he was so brave!

We surprised the kids and took them to Disneyland for breakfast one morning.  We went to Goofy's Kitchen.  We were greeted by Balu.  As we ate one of Ava's favorite princesses, Aurora, came over to talk to her.  What a priceless moment...Ava was in awe!  We also got to see the Madhatter and Pluto.  Bryce's favorite character was the Madhatter!  Next year, we will have to visit Ariel's Grotto and see some more princesses, for our little Ava princess.

We also had the opportunity to go sea kayaking.  It sure was a lot of work, but beautiful.  We saw sea lions on a rock just off the shore and there were even a couple of them playing in the water giving us a show.  We kayaked through the kelp fields in the ocean and saw baby shrimp swimming through the kelp.  Bryce did not like this ocean adventure at first, but then relaxed and enjoyed the ending of the ride. Ava kayaked with Gigi and Poppy and was ready for a nap when she got home.  All the rocking, put her right to sleep!

After our week long visit with our family and friends, we headed back to Las Vegas with another year of fond memories of the beach.  We were so happy we were able to spend time with Gigi, Poppy, Aunt Alison, Uncle Bryan, Cousin Lee, Cousin Larry, Jen, and Connor.  Looking forward to next years beach vacation!
