Broken Arm

My two children and I made our first trip to the Summerlin Pediatric Emergency Room after school on March 8th.  Ava fell off the slide at Thompson and fell on her elbow.   I knew something was wrong when she struggled so much to move it and when her face was "sheet white" after her fall.

Ava sat in her big girl hospital bed watching a movie and waiting for the doctor to look at her arm.

She was so brave, but we were lucky that "Blankie Jankie" was in the car, so that helped to make everything a little better.

After the x-rays were taken there was some confusion about whether her arm was broken or not.  They sent her home after 4 hours in a splint, soft cast, and a sling.  She went to school the next day to celebrate Student of the Month.  She didn't want to miss anything.  Unfortunately, the hurt arm was her right arm and made daily activities pretty difficult for her to do by herself.

Our follow up appointment was scheduled 5 days later at the orthopedic specialist.  He looked at the x-rays and determined that it was broken.  Lucky for her, the bones were still aligned, so no surgery! Within 10 minutes they casted her arm and sent us on our way saying "We'll see you in 4 weeks!"

What a little trooper she is...using her arm like a champ!  She can write now and get dressed.  She just needs a little more practice brushing her teeth!  Mommy and Daddy hope you feel better soon Miss Ava!
